Reaction Time Test — tap the moment it turns green
A game that measures in ms how fast you react to a green signal after a random wait. Your record is the average of 5 rounds, and tapping before the signal is a false start. Hard mixes in fake signals, and Master asks you to hit a target at a random spot.
About the game
The Reaction Time Test measures in milliseconds how fast you tap when a red screen turns green. A game has 5 rounds, and the average of the five is your record. The wait is different every time, so tapping early is a false start.
How to play
- Press Start and the signal box turns red with “Wait…”.
- The moment it turns green, tap the box or press Space. Your time is recorded in ms.
- Tapping before the signal is a false start. That round restarts, and 3 false starts end the game.
- Your record is the average of 5 rounds. Hard adds yellow fake signals, and Master shows a target at a random spot.
Difficulty
- Easy
- The whole box turns from red to green
- Normal
- A light in the middle of a dark box turns green
- Hard
- Yellow fake signals flash. Fall for one and it’s a false start
- Master
- Hit a target that pops up at a random spot
Tips
- Focus on one point in the middle of the signal box instead of the whole screen. You’ll notice the color change sooner.
- Keep your finger hovering just above the screen. On a computer, the Space bar is often a little faster than a phone screen.
- Guessing the timing leads to false starts. Don’t ride a rhythm; wait until you actually see the color change.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a typical reaction time?
- Visual reaction times are usually between 200 and 300ms. Devices and screens can add tens of ms, so compare records measured on the same device.
- How many false starts are allowed?
- Up to 2 per game: the round restarts and you keep going. The third false start ends the game as a fail.
- What changes between difficulties?
- Easy changes the color of the whole box, and Normal lights only the middle signal. Hard mixes in yellow fake signals, and Master only counts a hit on a target at a random spot.
